Just Let Me Vent

Just Let Me Vent!

I think I used those words a few times to my husband after a bad day at the office.   But that was me and I was an adult.  And my husband was an adult.  So, I didn’t want him to fix anything!  I was very capable of fixing it myself.  I just wanted to vent my frustrations – get it off my chest!  The gall of him to think I couldn’t handle it!  I thought – “That’s just a Man, always wanting to FIX something!”

But look at what’s happened!  I am hearing those words from my daughter in college.  What?  She doesn’t want me to give her some advice?  She doesn’t want me to send someone an email or call her teacher?  She doesn’t want me to FIX it?  The gall of her to think she can handle it!  I’ve always been there to kiss her boo-boos!  Now, I am just a sounding board!

UGH!  It’s the first signs of empty-nesting!  Give me a minute!  Take a breath.

So now, when she calls me in tears telling me how tough it is, I take a deep breath and say . . .

“Grow Some Balls!  They will serve you well!  Love you!”

Did I Really Volunteer for This?

I love volunteering for a good cause! Most of my volunteering has been for one of my kid’s schools or sports. Some days, like today, I have to look in the mirror and ask myself, Did I Really Volunteer for This? Do I really want to associate with these people? Did they really just say that? Can’t anyone just roll with the flow? Did you think before you actually pushed send?
Of course, I am probably just assuming that because all of these parents have their kids in the same private school, they have a lot in common with me. You know: They have to be able to afford the tuition. Their kids like to play the same sport. Their kids are in high school so they’ve probably been involved in the organization of the booster club or team meals!
But NO! They act like you are trying to modify the Declaration of Independence if you offer up 1 change from how it’s been done before. They write emails that indirectly accuse you of not doing your part – or, better yet, you are probably taking advantage of them. They gasp at the fact that you would ask them to spend $8 for their child’s meal that will be delivered to them at school.
Have they checked the gas prices lately? Hmmm, if I drive my SUV to the store to get the sandwich ingredients then make the sandwich and deliver it to school – I would have spent that much in GAS!
So, my friends, chill. . . roll with a few changes. . . stop and think that some of the people in this world want to give you a ripple in your pond! Enjoy the bump!
