Rememberances – Something You Can Control
Posted: February 1, 2013 Filed under: General Leave a commentI am a lover of control! I like to control the finances, the household and many other aspects of my life. That need to control causes me many frustrations. We all know that there are things that you can’t control (although we will try!) – one of those is your time to die. OK – hang in with me this is going to get more uplifting. When you pass, there will probably be a funeral, memorial or other rememberance. Now is the time to control what is said about you there!
I attended a memorial of a 49 year old woman that had died of cancer. The service was sad but very uplifting. This woman died too young but had obviously left a ray of sunshine as she left this world. In that sunshine I found a message.
This woman had friends and family talk about her smile – that lit up not only her face but the entire room, her faith – how she prayed for healing but didn’t shake her fist at God for having this devastating disease, and her love – how she gave out love to everyone she met. I left telling my husband that if I can have those things said about me – then I will die one happy woman!
So, take control of the things that are important – really important! Love thy neighbor, Give with your Heart and have Faith!
Did I Really Volunteer for This?
Posted: September 20, 2012 Filed under: General, Volunteering | Tags: booster club, days like today Leave a commentI love volunteering for a good cause! Most of my volunteering has been for one of my kid’s schools or sports. Some days, like today, I have to look in the mirror and ask myself, Did I Really Volunteer for This? Do I really want to associate with these people? Did they really just say that? Can’t anyone just roll with the flow? Did you think before you actually pushed send?
Of course, I am probably just assuming that because all of these parents have their kids in the same private school, they have a lot in common with me. You know: They have to be able to afford the tuition. Their kids like to play the same sport. Their kids are in high school so they’ve probably been involved in the organization of the booster club or team meals!
But NO! They act like you are trying to modify the Declaration of Independence if you offer up 1 change from how it’s been done before. They write emails that indirectly accuse you of not doing your part – or, better yet, you are probably taking advantage of them. They gasp at the fact that you would ask them to spend $8 for their child’s meal that will be delivered to them at school.
Have they checked the gas prices lately? Hmmm, if I drive my SUV to the store to get the sandwich ingredients then make the sandwich and deliver it to school – I would have spent that much in GAS!
So, my friends, chill. . . roll with a few changes. . . stop and think that some of the people in this world want to give you a ripple in your pond! Enjoy the bump!
